Calgary Cancer Centre

Project Description
Calgary, AB, Canada

Upon completion, the Calgary Cancer Centre was the largest cancer treatment facility in Canada and the second largest in North America.  Lighting was an important element of the design and a combination of natural and artificial lighting was used to create an optimal environment for both staff and patients.  Embedia's Solarai Group control system, which worked with interior shades to help manage the natural light, were tightly integrated with the Cooper Lighting controls, which managed the artificial interior lighting systems.  The two systems worked together seamlessly, not only providing an intuitive interface for managing all lighting throughout the built environment, but also creating a comfortable, effective space for patient care that promoted wellness and healing.

"Hospitals are traditionally designed to access oriented to the interior, which makes wayfinding difficult. Designing from the outside in, light can elegantly penetrate common areas, which is central to health and healing."   - DIALOG-Stantec Healthcare Team
