Canadian Parliament

Project Description
Ottawa, ON, Canada

The West Block Renovation Project at Canadian Parliament saw the Canadian House of Commons moved under a new glass dome structure.  Both custom skylight louvers and clerestory roller shades used predictive solar tracking and advanced modeling to regulate the amount of natural light within the debate chamber.  Calibrated illuminance sensors enabled broadcast personnel to tune the amount of light to a specified lux level for optimizing broadcast quality.  An anti-tracking or dramatic daylighting mode oriented the louvers to allow maximum sunlight penetration creating dramatic shadow and lighting effects when parliament was not in session.  Control Panel software with a custom dashboard provided status at a glance and allowed one touch system control from touch panels located in both the "crowsnest" chamber control room and main broadcast control room.
